More Than Just a Month

Wherever I may be, this one month will always feel different. We could be doing the same things as the previous month yet the air smells fresher and the stresses of life seem lighter. It’s safe to say this is genuinely my favourite time of year.

It’s not just a time to simply fast but it’s a time to reconnect and continue growing. You can think of it like a pit stop, where we slow down and refocus on what’s important. A time when we sit down and eat as a family, even side by side with our Muslim brothers and sisters. Whatever regrets we might have from the previous years, perhaps not being able to finish the Qur’an. We’re blessed to have the opportunity for us to fulfill said goals.

My favourite aspect of this month is the ability that we have to change for the better. It may be certain simple actions like coming to the Islamic lesson that is in that month or making an effort to attend Taraweeh prayers. However, it isn’t just during Ramadan that the effects are visible. It’s when they carry on attending those classes or attending prayers well after Ramadan. There’s honestly nothing more beautiful and motivating than seeing a fellow friend continuously improve reminding us that we are all on our own journeys. But no matter where we are on that journey, as long as we continue to progress and go to the next level, we’re doing okay. We may fall here and there but it's months like Ramadan that help us get back on our feet and continue growing.
