I am trying to reflect on our strange 'New Normal' with these images.
Pre Covid, we always dreamt about being free. Free from the constraints of adult-hood.
For those of us that are students, we were tired of early mornings and coffee runs all so that demon we call “Tertiary Education” can grant us a piece of paper that shows we are accomplished.
It is safe to say that, we got what we lusted for.
“Be careful what you wish for” could not be more appropriate.
We seem to forget the importance and hidden comfort in all the things we complain about. All of those 'Adulty things'.
We seem to forget the basic life equations and reasons we do those things in the first place.
Now we live in the world we wanted.
A world where we don’t have to leave the house to go to school.
A world where all work is completed on a device.
The world we wanted is not as fun as we thought. Over the months our wishes have become curses. Who would have thought? That we are social creatures, that we need other people?
That our friends matter.
Turns out our sources of happiness are fickle.
Everything is artificial
A few months alone made us realise things are not as they seem.
A few months alone has made us realise perhaps home is not where the heart is.
But this is our new normal and we reap what we sow.
We didn’t tend to our hearts or real needs.
We didn’t realise it was our homes that were in need
