Where We Find Peace
Saleem Yusuf
Family, friends, money and even status are all things that may give us a sense of security. We can lean on family and friends when we're stressed or just need someone to talk to. Money can ensure that the roof over our heads stays and that iPhone 12 plan is paid in full. Others may find a sense of worth and security in their title. But is it really the smartest thing for us to place our comfort, our peace, and our mental state on things that aren't guaranteed.
I'll be the first to admit that my family and friends are ridiculously important to me. They are the people I'd, without question, do almost anything for. You want what's best for them and wish them only happiness. However, to find my entire peace solely only while I’m with them is a dangerous thing, for one day they may no longer be around. What then? Do I adapt, or crumble and give up? The same goes for money, a "stable" job, or your title, none of which is something that is promised.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying your time with your loved one, the money you make or even your job. However, it being everything to you is where it can be a problem.
There is really only one thing that, despite everything being taken away from you, remains constant. That which can't be taken from you unless you allow it. It's what’s truly important and should be guarded with everything we have. Without it, we're wasting our time. It's what gives us the strength to always push and it what gives us the ability to have peace regardless of what is happening around us. Have fun and enjoy what has been given to you, but hold tight to what is truly worth fighting for.
