When Will We Prioritise Our Akhirah?

Adilah Munir

As the saying goes: "In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take".

If there is one thing that we all need to do, it would be to look more deeply into ourselves in earnest and look at what we are doing and what we have done. That way it might help us to start prioritising what is more important for our akhirah. Just like we take our education and job seriously, it's high time we do the same for our religion. There was a time where I would never have thought I would be teaching others. I thought I was not "ready” or I was too "young". Looking back now, these were all excuses I made for myself to avoid doing so.

With time and steady reflection, you realise that regret will be of no use if one doesn't act now to do better for themselves and their akhirah. We have to be wise and work for the life that doesn't end, not for the life that will end at any time. That requires sacrifices. Whether that be our time or our money. Whenever an opportunity arises whereby there is a chance to acquire good deeds, we should leap on that chance and reap as many rewards as possible.

This lockdown, for many, has been a trying time. Our day-to-day activities are disrupted, unable to see family and friends or to attend sessions of knowledge. Though it is challenging, we should always say Alhamdullilah in any situation we may find ourselves in. Alhamdullilah that as a community we have managed to adapt and make time to continue teaching the obligatory knowledge.

On an individual level, we should all strive to do better now whilst we’re alive. We should seek a better outcome for ourselves on the day we will be questioned about what we have done, i.e., our life span, how we wear out our body, if we acquired the knowledge and what we did with it, and our money and how we obtained and spent it.

Let us not be among the people of this dunya who fight & compete for what the people of the graves regret.
