The True Value of the Hararian Organisation

As a first-generation Harari Australian, I was lucky enough to have had a fortunate upbringing. Looking back, I realise that I had been offered every possible opportunity and was surrounded by extremely supportive family and friends. Of course, this was all made possible by my hard-working parents who, similar to many Harari immigrants, have sacrificed so much for us to live the life that we do today.

Moving to the other side of the world is no easy task. In addition to this, our parents and elders were able to establish such a strong-knit community in which they could keep a sense of their identity in a changing world. Their hard work had formed the foundations of what the Hararian Organisation Inc. is today.

As a young child I loved attending Al-Huda School and learning about my culture and religion, all the while establishing some of my closest friendships. Many volunteers often took their personal time to organise such memorable events. The lessons that were offered throughout the week had helped me keep in touch with my faith. As I’m sure many can relate to, such a community plays a large role on one’s identity when growing up.

Nowadays, I value the community more than ever. As an adult, I look back and appreciate the guidance that it provides. It reassures me and reminds me that I will always have a place to fall back on.
