Reflecting on Your Personal Relationships
Sitra Abdosh
As you get older, you realise that the people you surround yourself with play a huge part in your life. You may have developed a bond with someone over tough times in your life, received countless pieces of advice or lost yourself in sheer enjoyment with a particular person. Looking back on your life, each special person is there for a particular reason.
Personal relationships take a great deal of time and energy to maintain, which can become increasingly difficult as you find yourself with less time. In a society where everyone strives to achieve their own life goals, finding the right companion that correlates with your own life might seem like a tedious task.
As tough as it may be, reflecting on your personal relationships is necessary to ensure a balance in your life. It might be harsh to ask, “What am I getting out of this friendship?” However, critique is healthy and allows you to reassess the dynamics in your life. It’s important to surround yourself with people who encourage and bring out the best in you. Any negativity will only cause you to suffer alone.
Reflecting on your friendships is an essential part of growing up. A supportive environment will only push you to excel further in life. Because friendships go both ways, you should always ensure that you are also giving as much support as you are receiving.
