Reflecting on the AYM Youth Iftar 2023
Gihan Hassan
As the holy month of Ramadan has come to a sad and quick end, we look back at one of the events our community put together to unify our Muslim brothers and sisters during the month.
The AYM Youth Iftar was an event I am terribly proud of. From the planning to the execution, our community came together to deliver such a successful event.
The gathering of close to 100 people from all areas of Melbourne saw a night of laughter, lessons, competitions and chants. It’s a blessing to share such a time of our lives in togetherness and joy, not only because it was Ramadan, but because of Islam. The reason we were all joined at one place was to commemorate this family that is our Ummah. Regardless of where it was in Melbourne that we were travelling from, we all shared a warm meal, shared a chance to learn more about our religion, and shared prizes and chants that lasted way into the night. Our gathering was a blessing, connecting and communicating with faces unknown to us was a blessing and being able to connect upon the holy month was a blessing the youth Iftar aided for.
Behind the scenes, the countless meetings, and the rush to perfection were all due for the sake of Allah. The lovely team and community showed everyone what unity could do to bring together a place, a meal, and a beautiful time. The success of the night echoes all the way until now. In this spot, I would like to make Dua for those that were in attendance and those who had the intention to attend but couldn’t. To those who lent a helping hand, no matter the magnitude, May Allah reward you all greatly and bless you inshaAllah.
May Allah unite us again next year and the many more years to come inshaAllah.
