Finding Security in Failure

A person’s sense of security can be comprised of many different aspects, an important one being the fulfillment of one’s expectations. For many, this provides safety and security. But what happens when things play out in a way that is unexpected or unforeseen? What happens when you experience a failure?

Most people are met with failure throughout certain phases of their lives, with differing consequences to arise from them. It is therefore safe to say that failures do in fact threaten this sense of security that you may have. However, for some, being accustomed to defeat can become a strength that sets you apart from others.

Once you get comfortable with failing or not meeting your expectations, there’s a larger step or risk you’re willing to take to succeed. It’s almost as if you’ve got nothing to lose.

It’s hard to feel secure and stay positive when things don’t occur the way you initially planned. Coming to terms with failure and taking a moment to reset may not come easily to some. But those with practice will undoubtedly become better. It is in this particular manner that during times of failure, some may feel a better sense of security than others. Those that have familiarised themselves with the feeling can put their newfound resilience to use. They may learn and create something positive from it to the best of their abilities.

It’s no doubt that failing at certain aspects of life can shatter your sense of security. It takes a lot to admit one’s failure. However, utilising it as a learning experience can only bring about positive changes in one’s life.
