Career Expo Recap

Enaya Hassan

Our youth division, Al-Hidaya Youth Melbourne (AYM), organised their very first Career Expo for high school and university students. The event was curated in response to feedback received earlier in the year from the VCE Career session (for those in Years 10-12) which included talks on VCE, university application process, study tips and tricks and more. AYM found that many of the youth wanted to talk directly with people who are working in the fields they are aspiring to get into. As a result, the Expo included information about careers in medicine, business, engineering, construction trade, health, architecture and agricultural design, education, information technology and many more.

Students had the opportunity to talk with a variety of industry professionals from within our community and outside the community which included SES, Government representatives, and Victoria Police. The event began with an opening speech, followed by talks from a career councillor, Victoria Police and the SES. Students were then given the opportunity to go meet with a variety of professionals at their booths to ask questions and gain an understanding of what they do and how they got to be where they are today. Attendees also had a chance to go outside to view the SES truck before heading home.

It was a successful day and In Shaa’Allah we hope to have more events like this in the future.
