Being Present
Saleem Yusuf
The majority of us are all working towards something, whether it’s for something in this dunya or akhira. We try our best to work our way around things to reach our goals, often forgetting about what’s in front of us. At times too, we’re consumed with trying to reach that next chapter in life by getting that degree or getting married. There is nothing wrong with working for the future; yet, this leaves us neglecting the present.
The stage in life that you are in right now is a stage you will never be in again. The time and ability you have right now to just walk into your siblings’ room and just give them a big hug is possible (even if they hate it with a passion). To be able to walk in the living room and see how much your father loves his tea while watching the news. You get to look at your mum and really see her beauty as she looks back at you questioning why you’re staring at her like a crazy person.
Just getting to have those moments where everybody is around to sit and laugh. Depending on what chapter of life you are in, you may or may not be able to do these things. But whatever stage you’re in, you have the opportunity to savor what you have right now. The reality is these blessings will not always be around.
