Life Post-Isolation — What Can We Expect?

As of the 18th of May, coronavirus restrictions were eased with 20 people being allowed to gather in public places including cafés, restaurants and community gatherings. With further tightening of restrictions in the midst of the current Victorian lockdown, we can expect to slowly transition back into a normal life in what seems like the distant future. But will life ever return to ‘normal’ for us?
Most of us have spent the past couple of months working and learning from home where possible, as well as trying to navigate through its associated struggles. Although isolation comes with its benefits, it definitely hasn’t been easy for everyone.
Soon will come the struggle of resuming to the natural flow of things.
Returning to school, university or the workforce post-isolation can be quite intimidating especially after being deprived of social interactions for so long. It definitely won’t be the same as we are currently urged to keep the ‘1.5 meters’ rule. Shopping centres, learning spaces and work spaces have all been adjusted for use amid coronavirus restrictions. Hygienic practices are now vigilantly enforced (and rightfully so). These new practices are ultimately changing our lifestyle as well as the way we interact with others.
Moving forward, it is hard to imagine what a world post-COVID-19 will look like. Will we ever be fully rid of its looming danger and live the way we used to? Or will we adopt this new way of living to shape the future?
