The Power of Unity during Ramadan

For many, the month of Ramadan presents an opportunity to centre oneself and take a step back from the constant focus on worldly matters. While it always is a challenge to balance work, study and other commitments with the increased Ibādah during this blessed month, we somehow find ourselves achieving the goals we have initially set. Suddenly, our time management skills evolve, and we are able to improve ourselves and break bad habits.

Without a doubt, a vital reason for this enhanced spiritual growth is the overwhelming sense of community and belonging during the month of Ramadan. People across all corners of the world are united in fasting and prayer. Communal Iftars and standing in congregation during Taraweeh prayers all play a part in evoking a sense of unity between one another. There is a common understanding of one’s priorities and increased motivation, as each is on their own journey in hopes of attaining the full benefits of this holy month.

Then, as Eid arrives and we enter the month of Shawwal, surely there is a lot to celebrate. However, you cannot help but yearn for Ramadan and the solidarity it had brought with it. We ask Allah that we will get the chance to savour the experience once again in the coming year.
