Jum^ah Mubarak

Driving down the block, you look left, right and centre for a single parking spot. Finding a spot around the corner in front of someone’s house and you think to yourself: “I hope they don’t get mad”.

It has been almost two years since Jum^ah prayers were held consistently week to week. Something I have been attending for almost two decades. The first time returning to the Masjid and having to run down the road as I was unaware of what time they’d start there khutba. I was unsure whether I was late or everybody was incredibly early. Popping in and finding that I made it at the perfect time. Praying my sunnah while an adorable kid makes constant eye contact with me. These are all things I honestly didn’t realise how much I’d truly miss. It honestly all added to the experience that is Jum^ah salat. Even the strange struggle of having to fit it between work and seeing everybody still in their work uniforms. Feeling that sense of brotherhood again is unmatched. The sense that you are a part of something big.

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I was prepared to miss it. But I truly had no idea to what degree I’d miss the little things that Jum^ah had to offer.

The moment you hear the Imam say the opening words to the prayer and all our heads go down in utter submission. A sense of calm and a sense of peace overwhelms you. Jum^ah is back, and we get to share it once again with our Umma.
